Does anyone post anything here other than reading lists and stuff taken off wikipedia?

Well?

I tried doing this about two years ago but it took maybe half an hour to compose a single post and I'd get 4 replies.

This. There are occasional gems, but aside from those most threads made in the spirit of good discussion or that are directed to a specific discussion of a writer or topic just fizzle out after a couple of decent replies, while threads of DFWs face with only the caption ">and but so" will reach over a hundred replies and dominate the front page for a week.
I put a good deal of effort into contributing high-quality posts in Iliad/Odyssey threads. Not a lot of people reply, though.

what exactly are you expecting from a poorly moderated anonymous image board?

This. There's no point in attempting serious discussion here because at any given time there will only be so many people who have read the book you're talking about, and ten fold less people who have something valuable to say about it.
I contribute to threads where I know the subject matter, or where the discussion is interesting.
I try not to contribute to the cancer on the board.
