Why did the novel "The Catcher in the Rye" inspire Mark Chapman toshoot John Lennon?
It was Yoko's fault, honestly.

MK Ultra.

Why?
After watching some interviews with John Lennon I'm surprised it took that long for someone to decide he should be shot. Everything about the guy was insufferable.

What happened /lit/? When did everything go wrong? I wasn't expecting this kingdom simulator.
The role of the book to this story is incredibly overbloated. The fact that Chapman had the book with him and liked it was used by the media to attack on the book. It's like those stories you see in local news about rock bands, videogames or Harry Potter ruining some young guy and turning him into a murderous psychopath. There is nothing in the book that connects to Chapman's act and it did not influence him very much at all, even in spite of him saying it did.
He was a pleb

I don't think it inspired him. More like Chapman was the kind of loser who'd listen to the beatles and read the catcher. Still, lennon was a bitch ass phony and deserved a more humilliating death
