New kid on the block here. (Eurocuck)

>Uni starts in Januari
>I did read just one book in my life which I actually enjoyed (Schijndood by Simone van der Vlugt)

I'm good at multiple choice and a little bit of logic took me this far. But right now I'm to far behind with my future class mates overall.

I'd like to polish my vocabulary and be more eloquent with my words, I can have a hard time using the right words in a correct and clear sentence. For long I heard just by reading books you can help this matter of mine.

This post alone took me a couple of mins to type ughh... I already regret that I didn't read books from a young age. (22 right now).

Dear /lit/ any recommendations?

Read some of the more "modern" classics: 1984, Slaughterhouse Five, To Kill A Mockingbird, Catcher in the Rye.

Also I strongly recommend a collection of David Foster Wallace essays, either Consider the Lobster or A Supposedly Fun Thing. Pay attention to the diction utilized to construct an argument; every word a writer picks is picked for a reason.

On a similar note to the essays, I think some of Philip Roth's fiction would be conducive to promoting an environment of active syntax appreciation. Dude is always cranky about something, and is smart enough to combine diverse prolix and sentence lengths to craft a thesis while also being entertaining. Check out American Pastoral.

Also, don't be afraid to actually look up the definition of a word you don't know. "Context clues" get bandied about in school, and that can be useful if you're in a pinch, but honestly nothing beats actually teaching yourself the concrete definition of a new word.

Tering ouwe. Beter ga je boeken lezen. Het is nooit te laat. Tenzij je kanker hebt, dan wel.
Begin gewoon met wat nederlandse troep. Heb je de aanslag gelezen? Zo niet, ga dat doen. Lekker kort, lekker simpel, maar klassiek. Of wil je exclusief engelse boeken lezen? Wat studeerde je ook al weer?

Heb geen kanker gelukkig. Maar wil beginnen aan de boeken die hier zijn geadviseerd, To Kill A Mockingbird lijkt me wel goed beginner.

Wil me Nederlands aanscherpen dus Nederlandse boeken of Engelse boeken vertaald natuurlijk. Aanslag zei je? Ik zal er meteen naar kijken, er zal vandaag sowieso een boek besteld moeten worden.
