why is this considered YA on here?
I have no idea what it's about, but are the themes well covered or it has some kind of simple moral to it?

It's not, I'm pretty sure most of the people who dislike it just know it's popular and want to have great opinions.
Read it. It's fast and pretty fun.
It's aboutbirds

it's YA. it's not bad YA, but it's not good YA either. it's thoroughly mediocre

It could possibly be a confusion stemming from it's accessibility. Since it isn't particularly challenging to read and understand, it must be for teenagers.

This is the answer.

Reddit required reading.

This, inaccessibility is the primary criterion by which we judge books.
Try reading some books /lit/ recommends; you'll find that many of them aren't nearly as good as they are "literary," which is to say obscure.
We fetishize the feeling of not knowing quite what someone's trying to say.

What exactly makes it YA then?
I'd understand someone saying its bad because that's just someone's opinion, but calling it YA feels like an empty insult.
Look at the fucking cover, the publisher knew who they were marketing to
Trying to judge things for being Young Adult is ridiculous since many classic novels can be described as Young Adult yet that's usually forgotten.

>it is YA because I don't like it
Yeah nah fuck off
It's about a prisoner who goes through hell at the end of an actual war, not some chosen one fantasy hero. The protagonist is weak, ineffectual, pitiable, and whether or not he has lost his mind is left open to interpretation. There's no love story, there's no wish-fulfillment, the storyline is nonlinear.
The only reason anyone would claim this is YA is because it is not very difficult to read and reddit likes it.
My friend got my this for Christmas since I told him I like to read "classics" (something I say to avoid sounding autistic when asked what I like to read). How bad is it?

Is this a statement on Vonnegut or on Slaughterhouse 5?
