How do you start writing for money? It used to be that you'd send a writ or two to a magazine or publication and hopefully you'd spark enough attention to get published. How does it work these days? Any of you does it?

You might be better off asking /lit/.

Research niche fetishes and find where people buy them

Unless you're writing about weird shit getting dicked you're probably not going to make anything writing

This. Do furry shit or muscle girls or something.

This guy made more than a million euros (over a lot of years) just ghostwriting pop crime novels. But it's paying less and less.

He also made decent money writing stuff for gossip magazines, niche detective magazines, etc.

Now he's old, he publishes "real" books under his own name and they don't sell well, but he doesn't care.

His blog (redpilled as fuck, in French):

I made like $1k writing essays for rich kids, 90% of the time they're extremely retarded and think that the higher the page number the harder the writing project, and thus you can charge them exorbitant prices.

Is there something to this? I know artists who can draw halfway decent can make a nice chunk of change doing erotic commissions, if I was willing to write like scat or muscle girls could I really make some money? I'm not even talking about a lot of money, just some extra on the side?

Does Amazon allow scat and shit?

This is another situation where you really need to be at the top of your class to make it - you need to be one of the most popular authors (not necessarily a stellar one) in that niche before you can count on getting regular work. You'll probably need to do unpaid work for YEARS before there's any payoff, so you can't "just be in it for the money". It has to be for the love of the game. Goes for any type of writing, really.
I joked about doing retarded fetish porn, but in reality the vast majority the paying market is toothless pulp romance for women, just as it's always been.
Using furry as a case study for fetish porn (since I actually have some stats on hand):
If you look at SoFurry (the only lit-centric furry site on anyone's radar), the most popular stories on the site have less than 100k views, and if we filter out the top 100 or so, we're already down to 10k views. New stories from anybody but the oldest of the old guard very rarely crack 1k. I'm not saying this is totally undeserved, since of course most of what gets published there is stomach-churning. But realize that even the best Togepi incest impregnation fic is never going to reach more than 1k readers BEFORE you add a paywall, and then you can see just how limited the market really is. Factor in the incremental time cost of producing a quality porn story people will pay for vs. a typical $40 piece of furry art, and you've got a losing proposition.
My personal metric for "breakeven" when I write anything viewable for free online is that people spend as much time reading it as I spend writing it. Which by my math (factoring in all the time I spend storyboarding and editing) usually comes somewhere around the 50 viewers mark. You really can't set the bar too high.
The takeaway is that if you're dead-set on making money writing smut, you need to grow a vagina and crank out staple romance.

Study the Horoscope and write shit about it

I do this as well. It funds my drug habit nicely.

How do you find them?

Ok Hal

Don't forget that some of those views are bots, repeat views from a different IP address, and people who clicked but never read it or abandoned it part way through. Your "50" views is probably 10 in reality.
>>
>>8799732
It depends on the site, but for a), I'd say the scraper/bot views are a constant you can factor in - they don't really scale with viewcount. You're definitely right that it can have an effect, but I think it can be pretty reliably accounted for if you look at typical view counts for horrible new writers in saturated niches.
Assuming that readers read all the way through between switching IPs, I'll gladly take a second view from the same reader. Knowing that someone considers my work good enough to read twice is a much bigger confidence boost than seeing two people read one of my stories once.
Readers ditching partway through is the hardest of these points to account for. I'm guessing it's by far the largest contributor to view count inflation. This is a big part of the reason why you see tons of serials where the first part has three or more times as many views as the last, probably more so than readers gradually tailing off between posts.
>>
Depends on what you want to do OP.

Do you want to actually write shit you can be proud of? Do you want to just churn out a bunch of cheap shit that any doofus with an e-ready might read on the crapper? Do you feel comfortable writing for other people?

The answer will depend on what you want to do and how you want to make money.
