How long would it take a native English speaker to learn to read Latin fluently? Is it a difficult language compared to say, Spanish?

Bump

yes. be warned. but once you master it it will probably be the best thing you or anyone in this board will ever do.

Yes
I decided to completely immerse myself in Latin a little while ago. Very easy language to a native English speaker. Not even native even, just someone with a good grasp. I can now proudly boast having read almost everything Virgil wrote in its original script, without any companions of any kind. Took me about 3 weeks to get to that point, give or take.

this is false, right guys
>>8783440
Nope. I could give you some handy tips, if you'd like.
>>8783442
Was it worth it?
Don't just say yes because it took a lot of time
>>8783442
That would be awesome, thanks man
>>8783432
3 weeks, I don't believe you. Unless you mean you were studying for hours every single day. Even then so...

Not him, but I don't think it's too much of a stretch. Take a look at any Latin textbook and you will see that the language really isn't all that difficult. If you have a decent knowledge of tenses, cases, and other grammatical concepts it is rather simple, and if you speak English and/or a Romance language, it's basically a cakewalk.
Is pic related the best?
