If my plan was to read a translation to my first language, and later read the original, would it be less dumb? Considering the complexity of Ulysses, wouldn't it be interesting to "look" at it with from different "angles"?

Don't. My dad has a Portuguese translation of it, and from what I checked (I have read neither, but pretend on doing so), it is as verbose as the original, or maybe slightly less. Furthermore, you won't be able to properly appreciate Joyce's prose.
You probably have a decent grasp of English, so reading the translation is simply not worth it. Find a good dictionary and dive in.
