Kafkas short stories are alright, high literary value and and slightly depressing, not exactly the melancholy vibe to them however

I recommend The Servant, by Robin Maugham. It's a very worthy novelette, OP. He was Somerset's nephew, and in my opinion this is a fantastic book.
