I don't ever post on /lit/ so I don't know what to expect, I just really like Kurt Vonnegut and was curious what a board about literature had to say about him.
So far I've read Slaughterhouse 5, Cat's Cradle, Breakfast of Champions, The Sirens of Titan, Mother Night and am finishing God Bless You Mr. Rosewater.

/lit/'s thoughts on him?

Probably a troll? But if serious, personally I like Vonnegut alright. /lit/ despises him because he has some lame hipster fans.

I enjoyed Cat's Cradle, Slaughterhouse and Breakfast--but his style and schtick gets a little tiring after 2 or 3 books.

Vonnegut is okay, but he's kind of starter "literary fiction" for those in their late teens/early 20s. Once you get a bit older and you start reading a lot, you realize there's a lot better out there.

Breakfast of champs is still the funniest book I've ever read though

Breakfast of Champions was a life changer for me. Nothing I have found before or since has been as hilariously dark, cynical, satirical or enjoyable as that one.

He gets shit on a lot because he's often an entry author for people seriously into literature and we get tired of people thinking he's one of the all time greats when he's simply very good. But he is very good. Sirens of Titan is seriously great, as is Slaughterhouse Five as overplayed as it is.

You read Catch-22, Siddhartha, and Lolita yet? Give em a go if you haven't I bet you'll love em.
