Do you believe this is a fine list?
http://www.artofmanliness.com/2016/11/28/100-books-every-man-read/
What amount of that is just bullshit?
If I see one more thread about this fucking list I'm joining ISIS.
It seems relatively /lit/
Surprised to see Greeks and stuff like The Maltese Falcon on there

reddit as fuck
Many of the books are shit and a lot of them are fun to read but don't really belong on a "must read" list.
Some of them are solid recommendations but are recommended for the wrong reasons.
I think it's idiotic to be honest, the whole idea of the list and the site.
Everyone will say it's shit, but won't provide examples, and if they do, they'll be the most shallow examples that stand out because they read them when they were young, or simply that they recognize the title.
/lit/ doesn't know anything.

Here is a fucking list:
SHAKESPEARE
TOLSTOY
GREEKS
MILTON
DANTE
CERVANTES
VIRGIL
CHAUCER
THEN ANYTHING ELSE YOU FUCKING WANT
THAT ART OF FAGGOTNESS LIST IS JUST A CONGLOMERATION OF POPULAR YET PARTIALLY LITERARY WORKS
ITS NOT A LIST OF MERIT
>>8780785
>Milton and Tolstoy
>no Ovid or Goethe
>>8780813
GOETHE'S INFLUENCE HAS WANED OVER THE YEARS
OVID IS INFERIOR TO VIRGIL AND IS NOT NECESSARY
>>8780813
>Goethe
G*rmans should not be read by anyone.
>>8780714
Which are the solid ones tho.
Elaborate.

If it's old, it's good?

What man honest-to-god wants to read Wealth of Nations?
>>8780987
If it's old and you know its name, it's because many people throughout many centuries thought so.

stupid list for idiots who need to get got
Lots of good stuff on there (Christine de Pizan, nice), and I've read at least half. Nothing wrong with picking from it, though I suspect most truly manly men don't read that much.
>>8781022
You're right on that. Manly men are getting things done, while the others read about the things they've done, or write about how artful it is.
half the authors on that list would laugh at the idea of "manliness" being some ideological goal
>>8780785
Well, someone's pumped.
>>8780647
>"The Republic is a Socratic dialogue"
Lists like this are always shit
>>8781045
Indeed.
"Lord, what would they say
Did their Catullus walk that way?"
Seems like a pretty alright list. A lot of good books on it.

That guy doesn't look bad. Maybe the only fedora picture I've ever seen that works. He is exactly the type of person I would want to see wear a fedora.
I'm going to save that rare fedora.

>i make a list but i don't rate the greatest of all time...
Op what do you expect from a Mormon family honestly... let them have their Mickey Mouse concepts on manliness
>dude political power
>dude war
>dude survival
>dude harsh human nature
None of the listed are bad books, but I feel like they recommend it for the stupidest reasons
>>8782973
Yeah if you're over 50 its just a hat

Why do the French decay so smugly?
>>8782973
>who is Leonard Cohen
>>8784479
I don't know who that is. I saw that he died but I was too busy to look into him.
>>8782958
Point taken.
>>8782933
He just wants to wear his cool hat and show it to others please be nice. This is making me sad.
>>8784543
Oh right damn he died. Having hard time comprehending that fact.
But he was the man who almost made me buy a fedora. Glad I didn't, it would've had to wait some decades until I would be old and fragile in order to look good with it.
Besides the music, he wrote 2 novels and many books of poems. I'm reading Beautiful Losers right now, pretty good.
