Does anyone here think that Nabokov is bordering purple prose?
How can one write like Nabokov, but not get called out for overly extrapolating prose?
got gud

We're not playing league here, m8; this is serious business.
I feel as if it's impossible to recreate what he's done in today's society.

Because "overly extrapolating" is Hemingway-esque bullshit, and is only said by people who think stripped-down prose is the ideal. Plots are garbage: we read good authors for their prose.

Seeing as though there are no such requirements to create threads, you can fuck right off.
If Nabby ain't purple, no one is.

In school you were taught that purple prose is bad, because you werent being taught english so that you can write the next Ulysses (which isnt a bad thing, necessarily) but I guess they really hammered it in, and I mean, if you look at new york times best seller, or most of the books that people buy, likely it will not be full of purple prose.
Because he does it well and meaningfully. Purple prose is meaningless, often cliched and simply nonsense that by definition can't be aesthetically pleasing.
