I liked it a lot. although the last few hundred pages. like 200-300 aren't as great. I would say it's worth a read just to see all the shit he crammed into it. J R is a lot better though.

Also, Gaddis was a fan of Katherine Anne Porter (at least, he sent her some fan mail). I've been reading some of her short stories and they strike me as similar to Gaddis' tone and style, especially "Old Mortality."

I haven't yet read Welty, but she sounds similar as well (provided the mythological references aren't too blatant).

Just started it yesterday and am around 50 pages in and loving it so far. No idea what to expect though
