I think you've confused Private Life of the Rabbit with Watership Down, which was criticized for presenting itself as based on PLotR which describes rabbits as matriarchal, while WD is very much patriarchal.
The female rabbits dig the warren and new warrens are started by female rabbits invariably. Dude rabbits just go along for the ride.
