Are there any modern writers who are influenced by non-literary or unconventional art and ideas? I'm getting bored of the uninspired traditional academic Western canon/postmodernism worship that is all too common. Eventually creating new literature out of reused ideas from old literature feels incestuous.

Like how pic related was influenced by jazz and William Carlos Williams by painting etc

Every author iis influenced by on n literary culture. The Greeks were influenced by philosophy and oration, the classics by religion and politics, fucking Tolkien just wanted to show off his love of linguistics...

But I guess you could read Anne rice or Stephen king, they definitely aren't inspired by western canon

Look into outsider art. Not a crazy amount of (good) outsider literature, but it sounds like what you want.
