What's the etiquette of using pseudonyms?
People put so much emphasis on a poet's biography that they practically want the details on his kindergarten experiences. Are pseudonyms considered deceptive nowadays?
For those of you who do use a pseudonym, what led you to it?

I use one when I'm trying to get published so people won't know I'm a straight white christian male.
What do you mean etiquette? If you do anything interesting people will probably find out who you are anyway.
I just prefer to be in the background, I don't like attaching my real name or face to things. I like to be a face in the crowd, I like that I can come and go without people realising. Being the centre of attention is nightmarish to me. A significant portion of my socialising and general interaction is done anonymously or from behind an online handle, why would I do it any differently in a professional situation?
