>With a Spartan rigour which never ceased to amaze his landlord-grocer, Nietzsche would get up every morning when the faintly dawning sky was still grey, and, after washing himself with cold water from the pitcher and china basin in his bedroom and drinking some warm milk, he would, when not felled by headaches and vomiting, work uninterruptedly until eleven in the morning. He then went for a brisk, two-hour walk through the nearby forest or along the edge of Lake Silvaplana (to the north-east) or of Lake Sils (to the south-west), stopping every now and then to jot down his latest thoughts in the notebook he always carried with him. Returning for a late luncheon at the Hôtel Alpenrose, Nietzsche, who detested promiscuity, avoided the midday crush of the table d’hôte in the large dining-room and ate a more or less ‘private’ lunch, usually consisting of a beefsteak and an ‘unbelievable’ quantity of fruit, which was, the hotel manager was persuaded, the chief cause of his frequent stomach upsets. After luncheon, usually dressed in a long and somewhat threadbare brown jacket, and armed as usual with notebook, pencil, and a large grey-green parasol to shade his eyes, he would stride off again on an even longer walk, which sometimes took him up the Fextal as far as its majestic glacier. Returning ‘home’ between four and five o’clock, he would immediately get back to work, sustaining himself on biscuits, peasant bread, honey (sent from Naumburg), fruit and pots of tea he brewed for himself in the little upstairs ‘dining-room’ next to his bedroom, until, worn out, he snuffed out the candle and went to bed around 11 p.m.

He then went for a brisk, two-hour marathon through the nearby forest or along the edge of Acropolis, stopping every now and then to ask his latest thoughts to random craftsmen he always found around with him. Returning for a late symposium at the local lord's manor, Socrates, who cherised promiscuity, sought the midday crush of the orgy in the large dining-room and ate a more or less ‘private’ lunch, usually consisting of a beefsteak and an ‘unbelievable’ quantity of dicks, which was, Plato persuaded, the chief cause of his frequent stomach upsets. After luncheon, usually dressed in a long and somewhat threadbare toga, and armed as usual with thick, bulgy, and a large musscles to shade his intellect, he would stride off again on an even longer walk, which sometimes took him up the Mount Parnassus as far as its majestic oracle. Returning ‘home’ between four and five o’clock, he would immediately get back to work, sustaining himself on young aristocratic boys, peasant boys, wine (sent from Sicily), fruit and pots of ambrosia he brewed for himself in the little upstairs ‘dining-room’ next to his bedroom, until, worn out, he snuffed out the candle and went to bed around 11 p.m.

So you want to live 'according to nature?' Oh, you noble Stoics, what a fraud is in this phrase! Imagine something like nature, profligate without measure, indifferent without measure, without purpose and regard, without mercy and justice, fertile and barren and uncertain at the same time, think of indifference itself as power — how could you live according to this indifference? Living — isn't that wanting specifically to be something other than this nature? Isn't living assessing, preferring, being unfair, being limited, wanting to be different? And assuming your imperative to 'live according to nature' basically amounts to 'living according to life' — well how could you not? Why make a principle out of what you yourselves are and must be?

The existentialist political philosophy part makes no fucking sense. Y'all know that the core tenet of Sartre and existentialism is that life comes with no preordained "to go" meaning, right? We would discuss the Hellenes, determinate and interested (contra Kant) aesthetics, French literature, Southern music, hiking trails, Good and Bad, fruit, historicism, becoming, and other related concepts.

Or is it better to OP with sloppy assertions so there will be guaranteed correction posts?

Tfw I AM a philosophy major at a good university and in my last year and I still know pretty much nothing. In earnest I'm still pretty much a brute more than an intellectual, who more than anything has come to hate "dialectics", argumentation, discussion, ... . Probably why I always appreciated Nietzsche. I just want to write as freely as him, current academics is a strain on creativity and a bore. Modern focus on copyright and plagiarism, even "self-plagiarism" as if such a thing could exist, is halting philosophical progress and creativity. Most of the great works throughout history could never be written today.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with your meaning, but do you think that literally inserting any of the great works into those plagiarism search engines would return anything other than

Or do you mean that referencing-rules pedantry forces a disruptive staccato into a thinker's working?

I am always amazed how readable Nietzsche's pre-socratics essay is, considering how young he was, and that he didn't have populist intentions like many writers specialise in today. I consider it the best book on them, yet it wouldn't hold up to current academic standards. In fact, Nietzsche's entire work has this same character.
>>
>>8736613
That sounds v comfy.

You're being too optimistic, tho. Nietzsche generals would, without fail, devolve into "but was he a nihilist????" and similar tired, meme ass bullshit that doesn't actually engage with Nietzsche's most interesting ideas or applications, both lofty/academic and mundane/everyday, of those ideas.

>Nietzsche generals would, without fail, devolve into "but was he a nihilist????" and similar tired, meme ass bullshit that doesn't actually engage with Nietzsche's most interesting ideas or applications
This isn't true. If anything generals in good taste tend to be more elitist on a topic, since there isn't an OP question/premise for the layman to immediately react to beyond maybe 'ad hom'. They develop their own in-jokes and history, and these elements create the exact same effect.

I'm in the exact same position as you except I am a freshman.

Do you think I should stick to multi-disciplinary humanities (from what i see it implies i get my own choice of which philosophy and critical apparatus to use, and even which art to focus on), or is it worth enduring the systemizers, analytics and idealists because you get to focus solely on the highest discipline alone?

Yeah, he actually likes Buddhism.

I can't recall exactly what he thought of it, but it was something along the lines of 'respectable nihilism' (in that it can be respected/admired). He definitely felt it was superior to Christianity.

>>8736657
>he actually likes Buddhism.
Don't go that far. Anyway this is what you're looking for, obviously from Antichrist:
>Nietzsche unfavorably compares Christianity to Buddhism. He posits that Christianity is "the struggle against sin", whereas Buddhism is "the struggle against suffering"; to Nietzsche, Christianity limits and lowers humankind by assailing its natural and inevitable instincts as depraved ("sin"), whereas Buddhism advises one merely to eschew suffering. While Christianity is full of "revengefulness" and "antipathy" (e.g., the Last Judgment), Buddhism promotes "benevolence, being kind, as health-promoting." Buddhism is also suggested to be the more "honest" of the two religions, for its being strictly "phenomenalistic", and because "Christianity makes a thousand promises but keeps none." Martyrdom, rather than being a moral high ground or position of strength, is indicative of an "obtuseness to the question of truth."
