Why don't we start a literary journal? Then we can say

Why don't we start a literary journal?

Then we can say we've been published

(especially before age 25)

Who's in?
>>
>>8728979
what are we gonna do, superficial reviews of blood meme?
>>
I am in, OP. I am genuinely in. What would we write about?

>Who's in?

I like the idea, but your margins are simply too small for me to feel safe investing. I'm out.
>>
>>8728982
Free thought, shitposting, et cetera. It can start trash and then evolve over time.

These type of things are valued by historians.
>>
Start a discord and advertise it on /lit/ OP, interested persons will join
>>
/lit/ has already had a few literary journals in the past. Most notably, The April Reader.
>>
>>8728998

I know there's a new one called ideologylit - are there any others?
>>
Liturgy: The literary journal where fresh new talent goes to die. Now with 3 Gravity's Rainbow reviews per issue.
>>
>>8728988
In a thread a long time ago I proposed we call it The Shitpost. It wraps up Joyce jokes, our jargon, a newspaper-like name, and a categorization of its content.
>>
>>8729002
The Metric.
>>
>>8729002
The April Reader spin-off was called The Metric.

It sucked.

Look at OP's image and relax your eyes until the catwalk looks like his legs and his shoes/knees look like his dick
>>
>>8729006
There really should be three GR reviews per issue
>>
/lit/ has had numerous literary journals over the years. They've all flamed out and died.

It would need an editor with high aesthetic sensibilities.

I nominate myself, of course.
>>
I have an English degree and used to be on the editorial board of on an irrelevant university journal.
>>
>>8729301
What are your qualification? Rejections from publication look bad on your resume, btw.
>>
>>8729303
I swear I did a better job editing that than my /lit/ posts.
>>
Interested but what content would you like?
>>
>>8729304
Why would anyone know what magazines I've been rejected from? My body of work speaks for itself.
>>
>>8729316
I propose a 50/50 mix of memes and freestyle genuine content, with a Murakami-esque short story in the middle blending a dream meme world with an otherwise tasteful slice of life short story of a typical patrician litizen.
Short stories, poetry, tasteful nonfiction articles, reviews and what have you.
>>
>>8729324
>poetry

Relevant mediums only please

If /lit/ is going to have a journal it should be based on /lit/

No content that didn't get significant (you)s here deserves to be featured in it.
>>
>>8729330
It would take forever to get enough material that way. We just need to solicit submissions via email or website (with or without criteria) and somehow get the address in the sticky or something.
>>
>>8729327
Don't get me wrong, I'm in the same boat as you re:poetry. Put aside your pretenses, though. It deserves it's own corner.
>>
>>8729334
Whats the point in that? It'll just be some faggots ego project.

One way or another we need a way to keep the selection process tethered to the board
>>

At least one of those rewiews should be by someone who hasn't even read the book, in order to truly capture the authenticity of /lit/.
>>
>>8729304

I'm intelligent, nihilistic, and have a wicked sense of humour.
>>
>>8729337
You could have a rotating editorial board, or one of those vote dealies for submissions. Or we could have an ongoing /submissions/ thread where we discuss and (You) vote. I like that option, but I think it'd be a disorganized mess that would end up flaming out into endless shitposting.
>>
It's been done a million times, it never goes anywhere and they all give up.
>>

>>
>>8729345
>but I think it'd be a disorganized mess that would end up flaming out into endless shitposting.

Thats good, what else is this board for. You do anything else and then you get a reddit democracy
>>
>>8729347
If "The Shitpost" is 4chan-tier I don't think the community here has the right to be picky.
>>
>>8729351
Well then reddit awaits you my friend, they'll appreciate your intelligent puns there
>>
>>8729353
Seriously, Pounded by Ezra fucking sucks. The Shitpost isn't great or original, but it's better than that.
>>
Why don't we just vote for an ideology to govern content selection each issue?
>>
>>8729357
Neither of them are pretentious enough desu.
There's a distinct lack of Desu in both too, desu.
>>
>>8729358
The problem is someone has to select the content in the end. We could take submissions on themes, vote on those, then adopt that theme for our /submissions/ threads for that publication period. Sounds like a huge pain in the ass to me.

I think the reason why a journal will never take off is that no one who is serious about their work would submit to a 4chan journal. No one wants to be called a racist/sexist IRL, dude (note that I'm not implying that everyone on 4chan actually IS a racist/sexist, but that is the common perception). So we're left with a bunch of ironic meme literature or trunk stories written by people using pseudonyms.

Believe me, I would love to circumvent the liberal-fascist controlled publishing industry, but I think this is a fool's errand.
>>
>>8729771
Agreed. Lit is currently as a field dominated by the leftist pseudo-counterculture. An actual counterculture would have to either have a heavy liberalist slant or be radically right wing, both of which would be career killing in this day and age. The trend that defines this coming generation is the murder of the freedom from ideology previous artistic generations attempted to provide; simply put, any serious work would have to be anonymous and on the internet to avoid dooming the author, and thus be disregarded as the work of " supremacist internet trolls", or else be attached to the author's name and thus be disregarded as the complaints of a dying past.
>>
>>8729771
You could easilly anonymously submit shit, and yeah it would be a meme journal for a year or so.

My first submission would probably be some finegans wake style poetry about farting.
>>
>>8729810
>any serious work would have to be anonymous
That was also the case during the enligthenment. Stop being a pussy.
>>
>>8729824
I don't see how that observation makes me a pussy.
>>
>>8729810
This is still just some /lit/-project, not a career springboard. I'm still happy to contribute, even if it won't find much acclaim outside of 4chan.
>>
>>8729864
Oh yeah of course that's fine. It could be a good bit of fun for two weeks or some such, but its unfortunate because no one will read it or continue to contribute to it for much more time than that. I suppose I also ended up going off about the contemporary "counterculture"
>>
>>8729871
Have you been to the discord? Based on that alone I feel like this could last longer than you'd expect. But yeah, we'll see! It's still in its early stages.
>>

IRC for real time communications. You can log and search a ton of back history.

Mailing list can be sent to many recipients and they can respond to each other or the organizer with just an email address.
>>
>>8728979
Will the journal be anonymous? If not I'm not sure I'd be interested. Anonymity IS 4chan tona large extent and is so important to the spirit of the place.

Everyone send me all your great work!
Whats there to even steal?

A paranoid person could imagine that the Don Draper post reflect that you are in advertising and an Absolute Mad Man (and the image was a wink to be skeptical of), and the thegodheads email could imply you and your cohorts think you are masterminds for devising this plan to steal the writers ideas from here

/lit/ needs to stop trying to make a journal for fiction submissions and start making a journal for criticism. 4chan provides us with a platform to be both anonymous and elitist which allows us to be the only true non-pc review journal. we can get away with saying things actual journals cannot. there is an audience for that. there is no t an audience for our shit tier short stories

Is the leading theory, this person, is associated with 4chan /lit/ and does not like the idea of individuals using this platform to come together to form a union that will potentially try and profit from that work/ would prefer the content that would be compiled of this groups work to just be posted on /lit/ so that if it receives any eyes it receives ad revenue?

There was a guy on here years ago who tried to kick something like this off. I don't think he's still publishing it, though.

He called his journal, Pinecone. After Pynchon, of course. This was around the time people were pretty sure Pynchon was coming to /lit/. Around 2010 I think.

His first (and only, as far as I can tell) two are here:

pineconemagazine.com/collection

Like I said, I'm 99% sure he's not publishing anymore, but his website is still up. You can ask him if you want.

His email was

Made my own cover.
Thoughts?
>>
So what's the title actually? I'd like to mock up some design examples.
>>

I think it could be infinitely better if the font was just the slightest bit orange. and I mean slight
>>
>>8735320
>>8735480
It's beautiful. Yes, font could use more color, and maybe make it bold?

its better then sitting idle on your computer!

>mfw its happening

sweet!

also just a reminder

to include the name you want the work to get credited for so nobodies work gets stolen! (pen names are fine)

things that are impossible to credit will go under Anonymous

we got about 15 pages of material and a bunch of covers keep em coming!

>/lit/ literally shitposted their way to a journal
>>
>>8735710

Most things sent so far should be up on litquarterly.com at present (let us know if we're missing anything there; one anon sent a link to a collection of images that we couldn't access; feel free to upload it to the mega instead of the link you sent, or to attach it to an email).

Who knows what Godhead's doing; the Discord mag is tentatively called Shit Beyond Words.

SBW's going to run alongside godhead, and it'll showcase the best of communal shitposting: reviews of books by people who've never read them, ritual flyting, the rise of the Underground Manchild -- as well as legitimate stuff, like advice for starting with the Greeks.

Just like godhead it'll also show off the "best" of /lit/'s poetry and prose. You can get published twice, AND insult other anons! It's going to be opening submissions in December, and published January.

amen brother keep the dream alive !

we can get published multiple times for more cred! GENIUS!

its good you are doing yours long because i wanted to do a short one!
>>
As for the lit quarterly website i highly suggest improving the navigation of the pages, I should be able to see what poems are on the poetry page without scrolling through the entirety of each one.
>>
>>8736765
I agree. Will work on it.
>>
>>8736988
Did a clumsy hack to kind of take care of this. Will work on actually doing it in a way that looks better this weekend (Sunday) when I have some more time.
>>
>>8734757
I get what you are going for but I'd rather spend my time writing well because I'm just not that good at shitposting
