Deductive: work your way backwards from a series of specific assertions to a general root truth (what Thomas aquinas tried to do in summa theologica)
Inductive: start from a simple truthful assertion, and arrive at new assertions by extrapolating circumstances. Try a discrete math textbook for practical applications
