Is there a name for the literary device where one says a phrase near the beginning of something such as a poem or short story, then repeats it near the end and re-interprets it in light of the story?

ironic use of extended metaphor is the closest I can think of.

Antanaclasis perhaps depending how it is used.

It's a type of extended metaphor, but I was hoping for something more specific.

This is closer and led me to a list of rhetorical devices.

It seems the name is "antimetathesis", but if you could confirm that that's correct I'd appreciate it.

Thanks /lit/, you're pretty great.

Or maybe antanaclasis is closer. I now see what you mean by it having different meanings.

Thank you.

Here's a larger version of OP. I had to save the thumbnail due to my online search for the image but I now found the original.

This is more of repetition of a word or phrase, but shifting the definition with each use.
They do this A LOT in Synecdoche New York
"Theres blood in my stool."
"The stool in the basement?"
"No, my shit."
It's more an examination of innate miscommunication in language than say, recurring theme such as in Invisible Man's "the end is in the beginning and the beginning is something something etc."

'Recurring Theme' is what your thinking btw
