The only character with a fully decided-upon name is Maxwell Damon.
For the record it's a stage name and the guy's taste is intended to be awful. it's also a reference to Maxwell's Demon, a physics thought experiment regarding entropy
Sir Hastorid of Yoreminster-on-Turfingdel
Carmine O'Kurtz. The antagonist's name is Gustav Undendlickeit (German for "infinity").

Authors who waste time on these meaningless details are probably the time that aren't focusing on what actually matters in a good book.

That anon was careless with his advice. It is NOT perfectly fine, UNLESS you do it well.
When it comes to POV, if it works it works, if it doesn't it doesn't. It helps to make it easier for yourself by keeping it simple, but if you are a talented writer then anything is on the table.

First name Cornelius, no last name yet, unsure if there will be one.
I chose Cornelius because of the likely derivation from the latin for "horn". The work revolves around an extended metaphor based on the rhinoceros, so it seemed appropriate.

color me curious, or, more appropriately, wtf?
>>8724834
It's really more based on the Rhino Sutra rather than the animal itself. I definitely don't identify as Buddhist but the text has held a certain significance in my life. It speaks to the Buddhist tenet of non-attachment and tells you to wander alone like the rhinoceros. The story will be about a person striving for such non-attachment after realizing he has been too dependent on others and his attachment to them. This will lead him into a lonely, miserable existence, and he will eventually realize there is a sort of balance (or middle way to continue with the Buddhist theme) that is actually ideal. I plan to somehow work into the conclusion a dream that I had where I killed a rhinoceros to symbolize his realization that his quest for non-attachment (as he understood it) had been as misguided as his unhealthy dependence on others. I've also toyed with the idea of writing a separate short story for that last part as a sort of epilogue.
>>8724882
>>8724834
By balance I mean something like a life where you don't completely disconnect from everyone, but you also don't rely on those relationships for personal fulfillment or happiness. Understanding that it is ok to care about others, even love them, and give them a place in your life, so long as those relationships don't define you and you aren't dependent upon them so that when these people leave your life by whatever circumstance, it doesn't destroy you.
