What are some good stories where everyone and everything is fucked up? Anything transgressive or Southern Gothic welcome.
Stuff like pic related or Flannery O'Connor's collections, Breece D'J Pancake's work, some of Irvine Welsh's shorter stuff?

Should have said, I mean short story collections in particular, like all the examples.

Jesus' Son, if you haven't already read it. You'll find in short order that Pancake, Pollock, and Johnson are pretty much interchangeable, with Johnson being the most talented of the group.

Thanks for the tip, looks interesting. Know anyone else in this vein, even if they're inferior to Johnson?
Any more?

this book right here. Even though McEwan writes like a pussy nowadays (Atonement and everything after that is just awful), this is his first book and it's fucking awesome, a collection of short stories. I read it a while ago so it's all just a haze now, but there was a story about a guy raping his retarded younger brother, or something like that. Check it out.
