What's up with this le struggling starving artist meme? The reason Ancient Greece produced such great philosophy was because of the prosperity maritime commercialism. They reached a point in their civilization where a group of people could afford to sit around all day and study nature and argue theories. The same is true for Renaissance Italy, Tudor England, the Enlightenment in France, Weinmar classicism before the Napoleonic Wars in Germany etc.

At the moment south american lit is the shit, once a bunch of russian works get translated and gain some momentum we might have a few years of Russians being popular.
