>my teacher's face when we could choose any book to report on and literally everyone chose YA shit
>>
And what did you choose?
>>
>>8689304
They wouldn't let us freely choose books anymore from 16 years onwards. Only literature approved by the teacher.

How old are you OP?
>>
>>8689318
Notes from the Underground, but my report will come at the end of the month, so I don't know how my teacher will react.

>>8689330
We have a mandatory approved literature list also, but we must do a report on a freely chosen book once a semester as well.
>>
>literally everyone
So you also chose YA?

You could simply not give a fuck to your colleagues and choose what interests you. On HS, I chose Faust as the theme of a literature presentation, while almost everyone chose YA or simpler books.
>>
Why would you choose YA in the first place?

Choosing a 'harder' book is actually much easier because so much more analysis (that is going to be a lot better for an academic report as well) is out there which you can basically copy.
>>
In 8th grade, everyone chose dumb shit and I chose Catcher in the Rye (also dumb shit but I digress)
>>
>>8689382
>8th grade,
>I chose Catcher in the Rye
This is actually an appropriate book for 8th grade.
>>
>>8689368
Nah I didn't go yet
>>
>>8689397
>>8689382
We read Catcher in the Rye in 2nd year of hs
>>
tfw in my final year of high school i remember teachers telling us all we should study 'real literature' like looking for alaska for our final essay, and when I did my final essay on melville and conrad the teachers were frustrated because they hadn't read either moby dick or heart of darkness, but they were nevertheless convinced either books had imperialist agendas (because chinua achebe told them so). makes me sad thinking how uninspiring those english teachers were.
>>
You're such a little special snowflake, OP.
>>
>>8689304
Sounds like American education.
For A-level I wrote a paper about the influence of Blake over the Beats.
>>
Ok, pretty good story about a crazy class presentation I did when I was 17.

>teacher asks us to talk about any writer we want
>usual drill of YA shit/lena dunham bullshit
>I chose Mishima (going through an edgy seppuku phase)
>my presentation ends with a clip from 'Patriotism' in which Mishima graphically commits seppuku
>Wagner plays in the background
>literally most fascist thing ever
>do my presentation
>day of school OFSTED inspection (government inspectors)
>all the YA shits are not expecting this
>two people have to leave the room during the seppuku
>traumatise the class
>inspector takes me aside when class ends and says it was the most fucked-up thing he's ever seen
>spend the rest of the year having to explain that I'm not a fascist
>mfw all this was for banter

Croatian hs senior year
>>
>>8692029
Oh, in English language lessons? That makes more sense.
>>
>>8692070
Nope, just the normal literature class with the books translated to Croatian. We do have book reports for our English class, but believe me, those are even worse
>>
>>8689304
not even trolling, wtf does "YA" Stand for

Is she hot? Pick something advanced and maybe she'll blow you like the student-teacher pornos.
>>

>(also dumb shit but I digress)
Literally never post here again
>>
>>8689345
Honestly, the actual analysis matters more than the work. Anyone intelligent enough could easily write something on YA crap that far exceeds an analysis of anything Dost. by an average student.

Fresh off the boat, from reddit, kid? heh I remember when I was just like you. Braindead. Lemme give you a tip so you can make it in this cyber sanctuary: never make jokes like that. You got no reputation here, you got no name, you got jackshit here. It's survival of the fittest and you ain't gonna survive long on 4chan by saying stupid jokes that your little hugbox cuntsucking reddit friends would upboat. None of that here. You don't upboat. You don't downboat. This ain't reddit, kid. This is 4chan. We have REAL intellectual discussion, something I don't think you're all that familiar with. You don't like it, you can hit the bricks on over to imgur, you daily show watching son of a bitch. I hope you don't tho. I hope you stay here and learn our ways. Things are different here, unlike any other place that the light of internet pop culture reaches. You can be anything here. Me ? heh, I'm a judge.. this place.... this place has a lot to offer... heh you'll see, kid . . . that is if you can handle it...
>>
>>8689382
Catcher in the Rye is a good book. A book doesn't have to have ten complex layers each dealing with some profound moral issue to have value and/or possess meaning. Calling it dumb shit is just stupid.
>>
>>8690271
>Conrad
>Imperialist Agenda
wut?

Look up a book called Letters to Salinger. Cringiest thing ever.
