It's slightly banal but it's not horrible. It's a speech given to upper-middle class kids who will never know what it means to live anything more than an upper-middle class life. The irony is that Wallace himself was also one of those upper-middle class kids.

I don't hate the piece and I think maybe it's needed this year more than most. Our culture in incredibly polarized. You're either for us or you are literally Hitler. Sometimes you need something a little simplistic and banal to make make a point that sticks.
