Why do most English translations of "L'etranger"

They all relatively convey the same idea as the original title.

Stranger has more mystique. Other two sound political and trite.

It's not more accurate. That could suggest that Meursault does not fit into the society because he is a from a different society with different values.

The Outsider sounds more science fictiony
The Foreigner makes it sound like him being from another country is the plot
The Stranger sounds the best.

"The Alien" conveys the whole meaning of the French title. Too bad it sounds awkward in modern English.
