Having read the wiki, I can tell you there is an interesting thing going on with Hölderlin editions. It's basically an old school (Stuttgarter edition) vs. new school (Frankfurter edition) war. Both Stuttgarter and Frankfurter editions have smaller editions derived from them (Schmidt from Stuttgarter, and Knaupp from Frankfurter) that each have their little variations, so in the end you have 4 editions with partly different readings. The wiki author concludes that for this reason the reader is best served with the Frankfurter edition because it provides facsimiles of the manuscripts.
