Are there any books on the monastic life that /lit/ would recommend?
Next week I am beginning an introductory period at a Benedictine monastery in Colorado and may live there indefinitely afterwards. I'm not religious, but I know the bible well and am just looking to escape society for a while.
I'm currently reading Huysmans.

Did Houellebecq inspire you?
Interested in this as well.

It should probably go without saying if you're visiting a Benedictine monastery, but you should read the Rule of St. Benedict if you haven't already.

Agreed.
Read The Seven Storey Mountain, and if you like it, read more stuff by Thomas Merton.
