When I was 16 I hated all that shit. The only books I enjoyed in hs were The Fountainhead, The Odyssey, 1984 and Shakespeare.
16 year olds usually have no life experience, so things that assume or require a lot to appreciate are worthless to them, and idealistic works are best.
Until you're in or passed your "fuck this whole fucking world I want to do this but college loans/shit economy/shit society/family problem/inner struggle with nihilism is impeding me" you probably won't get much out of Hemingway.
