>Ulysses is pure style

Even if this were true, why would it be a bad thing? Aesthetic experience is the highest service the novel can perform. Much more preferable to authors who set out to write tomes of didactic """"life lessons"""", as if any can be universally applied from fiction.

Coelho is a hack that genuinely thinks he is better than Joyce.

>google this literal who

kek, into the trash his retarded jealous opinion goes

Much as he is a popular author and we are supposed to hate him based on brand recognition, what he says is accurate for me. I read for the story, which is what people have been doing around the campfire for thousands of years. I can of course admire Nabakov, Joyce, Faulkner for their innovative and beautiful prose, but I would rather have Thomas Hardy, Tolstoy, and even stuff like Kipling for the power of narrative and storytelling and character development, aspects of literature that are referred to as "pleb" here. Also, if the work is in translation, like Dumas or Mishima or Borges, this goes doubly.

>for their innovative and beautiful prose

frankly if this is the best you can come up with in praise of form over content then i sincerely doubt it. mouth breathers like you come to literature looking for entertainment on the order of TV miniseries and pay lip service to "innovative and beautiful prose" so as to mask their utterly bumbling inadequacy to the task of reading.

>reading for anything but entertainment
>reading for prose and structure and allegory

You are literally the asshole student in The Nightingale and the Rose by Wilde. You've missed the point, otherwise you are a troll.

>style can't be entertaining

Fuck off, pleb.

You sound like the best student in your 200 level undergrad course. Spitting back what your professor tells you is important gets you no points.
