When did you realise he was a hack?

>tfw I grew out of Christopher to Peter
>tfw now I've grown out of both of them
>>
>"growing out" of writers and thinkers and books and films and so on
>being so hooked at something you have to "grow out" of it
>not just reading and seeing and tasting the world and having good and bad impressions that transform themselves as you go along, not identifying yourself so much with people you never even met
>>
>>8626839
>muh utopian longing for a time that never existed

Trash.

Nice meme.

You can grow out of thinkers by realising their arguments are flawed, changing your ethical views or political allegiances or noticing the faulty manner in which they present their arguments which in the past was obscured by your bias.

That is the duty of an intellectual. To be constantly shaping one's opinions and realising the men that came before were stupid and their ideas must be crushed.
>>
>>tfw now I've grown out of both of them

This is where you grow from Peter to old Christopher.

It goes
>Celestial North Korea Chris -> Peter -> Trot Chris

reflecting the natural development of

>Atheist with some neocon views -> Right-wing traditionalist -> Socialist
that any intelligent young man nowadays goes through.
>>
>>8626876
You'll trigger the neo nazis
>>
>>8626866
Way to misread what I said. I'm not saying you should change your views, just pointing out to the fact that this somewhat radical realization that "their arguments are flawed" implies a certain expectations that their arguments could be right, even, that you've believed them to be right before you "grew out of it". Tell me anon, do you think a human being can sport arguments without flaw? Isn't the argument itself a device of communication and therefore written within its flawed dynamics?

People who grow out of writers depended and trusted these authors before. They need daddies to tell them how to think and they are willing to accept what they say until daddy dissapoints them and shows up to be a human being.
>>
>>8626887
Sounds like you're projecting, buddy.

I used the term 'grow' to correlate with my growth in age and growth in intellect, not as a phallic metaphor for 'daddy' as you put it.

projection

Sounds like it? Sounds like? Perhaps you are the one projecting.

You think that because you know what you mean, you know what you've said.

That's not true. He just says it was far superior than to what we have now.

My biggest dislike of Peter Hitchens is his incessant Anglo supremacy. Everything from system of measurement to religion, England did or does it better. Can't we just admit that although the creators of the meter system were incorrect about the circumference of the world, the system is quite good? Peter, please. Peter, stop saying Chesterton was bad at polemics. His poetry was bad, but Peter, please. Peter, please stop.

hes just another in a long line of anglos trying to ruin the world, nothing to see

I was never into either. Their tone and taste was both awful.

he's right though, you haven't grown all you've done is explore views that oppose what you used to take as the gospel truth. you probably have similar figures now that replaced them and eventually you will find views that oppose them and on you will go in your endless cycle of mindlessly clinging on to people who manage to do the miraculous act of thinking for themselves, something which you're clearly unable to do yourself.
but of course you can just accuse the other person of projection, because much like your tendency to blindly follow people and take on their views as your own, you also an inability to defend yourself with your brain and instead resorting to a one-size-fits-all accusation that is the equivalent of telling someone "you're stupid" when presented with information you can't understand. don't worry about it though you're not the only classic idiot who lives vicariously through other people.

Lucky for you i have a secret

This was a bait thread to lure you in, that's right, this entire thread, with the image of 'le moral man' was a device used to pull you in, I knew you would be attracted which is why i included the anecdote about christopher hitchens, i knew you couldnt resist, you couldnt let it slide, you wanted to share your opinion about public intellectuals and i knew that about you, i could see typing your paragraph out in advance, in complete ecstasy like the charlatan you are, seething but also with the quiet smirk of enthusiasm thinking you had won this debate but unluckily for you, it was planned from the beginning, your response, my thread, i knew you couldnt resist because that is what you are, the weakest of plebeians, phased by my might, consumed with anger and such little intellect you felt the need to share a glimpse of your unworthy lacklustre opinion which i had predicted all too long ago

keep playing the game pleb, i have shared none of my actual opinions here, all my posts are masked in many layers of seismic irony, compounded together in a blazing force which is indistinguishable from any true belief and hidden within it, cackling away, is me the great joke that is life

continue on attempting to reply with a witticism or a boring diatribe about your supposed ability to discern rationality from pseudo-intellectualism but bad luck, i have already calculated every single one of your feeble responses that have clunked around in your two inch skull awaiting some release like an over excited schoolgirl or a heroin addict who just took a speedball

you're nothing to me but a cheap trick, a one time pedantic pony, unnecessarily espousing his opinions wherever he goes thinking he possesses any glimpse of intelligence but ultimately lacking any forethought or noticeable talent

whatever

it matter not because:

none of the opinions or things i have written have expressed my genuine opinion in any way :^)

You would be incorrect about that. Watch his debate on whether Russia is or is not a marginal power on YouTube.

any wreckommendations?

There's two major points I disagree with him on:

He seems to believe that cultural liberalism and the move away from conservative-Christian values was actively encouraged by government or that they were complacent in it. Here he overestimates the ability of a democratic-liberal government to shape / change the direction of cultural movements.

The other is that he shuns neoconservatism (while neo-cons have offered genuine policy objectives and achievable political goals to promote conservatism for decades, rather than the sort of whining nostalgia that people like Hitchens offer), downplays the threat of Islamic terrorism, and much like most of the left wing writers tries to blame the issue on the foreign policy of the United States.

That's somewhat true though. The Labour Government of the 00s deliberately flooded Britain with millions of immigrants in a successful attempt to forcibly change the country's cultural values
