Fuckin lit. In other words this was mind and eye opening. I cant even explain the emotion that he must feel with these words that he's yelling toward the end. Toward the bottom you get a feel for how incredible the time must have been for him to have written such a spirit and heart bending and gut retching piece.

The thing about slam poetry is that there's nothing inherently wrong with the concept. The idea of performance as a new dimension to poetry is pretty interesting; it's just that the poets who do slam poetry, because it is so based around crowd approval, tend to be shit.

If a good poet came along and made interesting, ground-breaking slam poetry (I have no doubt this will happen someday), I would be happy for them to win the Nobel. The next set of formal innovations in poetry will assuredly be linked to live performance.

Slam is literally a white equivalent of rap. It's why black slam poets are much less cringey than white ones. Paul Beatty won a bunch of slam poetry awards in the early 1990s, he's a fucking great novelist and now really successful. If he wins the Booker this year (unlikely) then a Slam Poet will have won the Booker Prize.
