Yeah I spent years not realizing that.
Took me lots of study in psychology to understand something that basic was the most important thing.
When I started writing, I thought "no one gonna read this shit, it's anime" and then I started to focus on the more human emotional aspects and it became an actual story. It's YA fiction now, but at least its not anime.
Culture and language are vital to expressing emotion and anime doesn't translate well in many ways.
