I'd like to do this but how do you pay the rent/mortgage.
Ive got like 20k saved up and I think about finding some cheap as fuck house somewhere and running it out but it'd run out eventually and I'd be in a piss poor position to get more.
Plus I live in burger land and if I'm not paying out the ass every year on some insurance plan then I'll go bankrupt from a broken toe and get fined for not paying out the ass while I'm at it.

Could work from home freelance to afford a very small mortgage. If you were in English, you could get a job as a proofreader online.

You should get a dump far enough out in the country to make it peaceful but within an hour's drive to at least a small city. Buy it don't rent it. No sense paying off someone else's mortgage instead of building your own equity.
Next learn how to do DIY home improvements and deck that place out. Get real into it, plumbing and electrical even if need be. Unless you are good at investing, pay down your mortgage in excess of the monthly rates.
That sounds super comfy actually. How'd you manage to swing a place in the woods by yourself? That's always been my ideal housing.
