/thread.

I'm to smart to know that
>>
Most of the good Russian literature was written by well off people. Your other contention is garbage too.
>>
Not true. Do you hear about the great Middle Eastern or Somalian literature?

>>8553933
Tell that to Shakespeare
>>
the best russian literature has scenes from the best english literature

why
>>
>>8553945
How can literature be real if Russians aren't real?
Really makes you think.
>>
>>8553927

It depends on your cultural perspective.

If you are a native English speaker and if you are a reader, then you have probably read widely. You enjoyed the great English writers (Shakespeare, Hemmingway, Steinbeck, insert your favorite here). But because you are well versed in literature, you have picked up supposed classics that you can't stand. You compare contemporary writers of lesser talent to the greatest of all time in your language, and you find those other writers inferior by comparison.

Now, how many shitty Russian writers have you read? Probably not many, right? Because who would translate shitty Russian books into English? You have only read their Shakespeares, their Hemmingways, their Steinbecks. You don't have the breadth of knowledge to appreciate the scope of their literary scene. Not everyone is Tolstoy or Dostoyevsky or Chekov or Nabokov. They have their crappy writers as well, you just aren't familiar with them.

Some Russians probably complain that all the great literature is English, and there's nothing good in Russian. That's because only the good English writing stuff gets translated and circulated into the Russian language.
>>
>>8553973
>people can only speak one language

ur a fucking moron
>>
places that are deep in the shit and places that are far from it dont produce anything of value. only those who just came out of the shit but have not uilt anything yet do, and that is because they NEED to do it. they are among the ashes of the previous chaos so dont have the leisure of doing nothing or doing cheap stuff, but have the vital need to think about what just happened and build something new.
>>
>>8553986

He never said that, and the OP that he responded to never explicitly stated or implied how many languages they spoke.
>>
>>8553995
Logically, you can only be speaking and thinking in one language at the time, unless you're a real-time translator. That's why everyone only speaks one language. It's called "the theory of Nixzweifachgedenks" by German-Austrian philosopher Leopold B. Kweiet.
>>
People make literature, not places.
>>
>>8553927
Nah mate, you just know your own literature better, that means you know good and bad. However only masterpieces make it worldwide from Russia. Or you're saying best from brits is worse then best from ruskies?
>>

>>

No, sexual intercourse makes people.
>>
>>8554137

When two places love each other very much, one puts their isthmus inside the other's delta and that's how persons are borned.
>>
>>8553927
Struggle is essential for building character. It's why black communities in the United States produce the greatest artists, thinkers, and scientists. You think Barack Obama would have had the will to become president if he didn't grow up on the mean streets of Honolulu?

Read his sonnets, dude went through quite a bit of pain despite being successful. He also lost his son, Hamlet
>>
>>8553973
>You enjoyed the great English writers (Shakespeare, Hemmingway, Steinbeck

ahahahhahahahahhahahaha
>>
>>8554207
Name a single important English writer from the 20th century to now.
>>
>>8553973
Agreed. Dunno why all the hate.
>>
>>8554716
Attempts to connect his sonnets to his real life have failed. As far as we know, all that stuff could've just been pure fiction, like his plays. If he wrote extremely emotional poetry in those plays disconnected from his real life, he could've done that in sonnets as well.
And no, he didn't lose a son called Hamlet, he lost a son called Hamnet, and he doesn't seem to have been particularly affected by his death (perfectly natural in a world where like half the kids die), considering the fact that he just continued making comedies after he died.

Shakespeare and Goethe were in much pain. Starving Bantus are famous for their great literature. End yourself, pleb.
>>
>>8555226
I think OP meant that Russia is a shit country to live in, which is true.
>>
>>8555325
He could have simply made that obvious point and be done with. It's a mystery as to why he felt the need to mention literature though. Russian literature isn't the world's best, or somehow singularly legendary.
>>
>>8555330
I gotta ask, do you have problems with reading comprehension?
>>
>>8553933
david foster wallace was apparently in alot of pain and look at what he wrote, though. it's as bad if not worse than most of the lit coming from Britain
>>
>>8555330
>Russian literature isn't somehow legendary.
u mad bro
>>
>>8555325
.. simply said it is not a shitty country to live in, regardless of how many "only in Russia: youtube videos there are. The standard of living is lower that in other well off western countries and the country has been through lots of damage...internal and from the outside. But if you compare living there and living in the US, I would say the differences are not huge. In Russia I can even say you would have even more individual freedom than in Germany or the US. ..esp Germany , where you see a guy in suit who you think has high status, because he's working as lawyer or judge ...when in reality he's tearing his ass from work for scraps, his social and individual life a ruin and all thats left is a carrier in the huge bureaucratic apparatus.

...and besides the Classical Russian literature wasn't written by anonymous plebs, but by highly educated and reasonable gentlemen of great erudition...even in the following years of communism, when School education prepared you for war , and not just to throw you on the street with some random art degree..

this topic is huge ... Dont take Russia for this backwater country of drunks and imbeciles...

>An artist never works under ideal conditions. If they existed, his work wouldn't exist, for the artist doesn't live in a vacuum. Some sort of pressure must exist. The artist exists because the world is not perfect. Art would be useless if the world were perfect, as man wouldn't look for harmony but would simply live in it.

Now that you mention it English literature was pretty weak in the 20th century. Why is that?
>>
>>8555394
Industrial revolution. People have become materialistic since then.
>>
>>8555408
France and Germany became more materialistic as well in the late 19th century, and they produced much better literature than England. Considering the historical prestige of English lit it just seems strange that their literary output was so little when there was so many talented writers getting published around the world.
