Is it worth it to study English/Literature in college if I want to be a writer even though my parents are probably going to cut me off and basically disown me as a result

If you're gonna have to pay for it because your government hates you, then I'd be a lot more careful about the decision, but if you live in a first world country where they pay for your course, then go for it man
No
Dont be silly
> study English/Literature in college
Fuck no.

I will have to pay for it. And that's why I'm pretty nervous about doing it. I go to a top 3 school in the states, so the degree won't be completely worthless, but it will still be pretty shitty compared to most other degrees.

Have a realistic evaluation of your talents. Forget being a writer, just for the minute. Do you think you could succeed in academia?

>I will have to pay for it.
Don't do it
If you were a trustafarian the prospect would be feasible
do something that would give you the most life experience for your writing imo. unless you want to go into academia/languages.

philosophy, art history or something would be more beneficial if you are trying to write fiction.
but regardless of that the getting cut off quandary is a pretty easy fix. just fail/drop the classes for "your major" and make it so to graduate in 4-5 years you must continue on X track (philosophy, literature, etc). they'll still pay
