Why do I always get corrected when using poor punctuation, while authors get praised for novels that break most of the rules? Blood Meridian is written with very little punctuation. If he wrote like this in college, he wouldn't pass an intro class. Yet, it's considered a masterpiece.
You can do whatever the fuck you want if you can write a masterpiece. Punctuation doesn't do shit. It's just a visual cue for separating thoughts or how a sentence should be spoken.

No shit. I'm wondering why we're not taught that in school. It's kills any kind of unique prose.

Lack of punctuation has to have a specific function. You can't play with syntax without knowing why. You have to have a reason, not because you think it looks/sounds cool.

We are allowed to do whatever we want in my intro class as far as grammar and punctuation. We go over the standard rules and why theyre used and then alternatives and why theyre used. Dont know where you are that people get up in arms about leaving out quotation marks
