how is neo-victorian literature not the next step? Joshua Cohen knows this why don't you? Serialization, industrialization, class, science vs. religion, progress, nostalgia, utilitarianism, questions of social justice. People who know what they're talking about need not apply
we are lviing in the dystopian cyber punk future.
The right thing now would be to write about the disastrous global warming future were we run out of water and technology fails us

>how is reheating something from 200 years ago not the """"""""""next step""""""""

that's too easy, we all know that won't happen.
because literature doesn't have major periods anymore. that's a modernist meme. besides, our society is only going to last another two years maximum, so there won't be enough time for any stylistic shift

The Road has already been written
because the grand ideals of the victorian era have all been phased out. society is different. the only thing a "neo-victorian" book can hope to be is pointlessly cliche.
I can only see this "movement" either becoming a new breed of genre fiction or a sloppy attempt to attach 19th century morals and ideals onto the 21st century. I do not see it going any further than that. it can't hope to be transcendent, informative, or even slightly interesting. if you want victorian, read some. don't waste my time because you're too bland to come up with anything.

There are no neo-victorian works worth reading. They're basically fan fiction based on pre-conceived notions about the period, most of which are misunderstandings. So much of it is "look how bad it was, here's one Mary Sue character that is totally enlightened and modern."

Thats not what he means by neo-victorian
