Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss the history of Alchemy, the ancient science of transformations. The most famous alchemical text is the Emerald Tablet, written around 500BC and attributed to the mythical Egyptian figure of Hermes Trismegistus. Adopt stoicism. And do not define yourself by your job or the things you own. Just make sure you have the basic necessities: Food, water, shelter. These are the only things you should really worry about, everything else doesn't really matter. In fact most things don't really matter.
Then pursue getting rich as a hobby. If it works, great. If it fails, whatever.

Just, like, do what you want, man.

It doesn't really matter what you do, unless you make it matter. You shouldn't make it matter.

Save you from what? Poverty? Unhappiness? unfulfillment?
The only way I stay grounded and content in life is through meditation. If I stop meditating and living mindfully the anxiety, stress and depression slowly starts creeping in. I can still chase money while I'm not meditating as long as I am in the moment while doing it. It's actually easier to catch yourself procrastinating if you are aware of your thoughts.
But that's me. I wonder if the people who aren't practicing meditation have total trainwrecks of inner landscapes and they just don't know any other way of being, or if there are people who are inherently "cool".
