I don't dislike fantasy, in fact it's probably one of my favorite genres, but so much of it is just cliched now.
If you're into fantasy checkout some of these:

>Pratchett
>R.A Salvatore
>GRR Martin
Maybe also some of the Warhammer Black Library stuff (e.g. Gotrek and Felix/Blackhearts by Nathan Long).

I read the first one ages ago, it was OK I guess, nothing special. didn't like it enough to bother with the rest. if you don't like it at 150 pages reading on won't make it any better.

The first book is merely OK. The following ones get much worse. If you don't like it so far, feel free to skip it, it's hardly a loss.

However, he's right. Most fantasy is utter shit; it's all copy-cats copying the good guys -- that's why it's called genre fiction.

However, there *are* good guys. Like the obvious Wolfe and Tolkien.
