The problem isn't Dunham per se, the problem is that she skipped the journeyman phase of learning how to be an artist and went from the bottom of the heap all the way to the top too quickly. All good artists have spent years honing their craft before they hit the big leagues (and then a few of them turn out not only to be good but actually to be great.) Neither we nor Dunham will ever know her potential because she was thrust into the spotlight too quickly.
