pleb here. i have a question about the bible: is it really a literary masterpiece if taken apart from the historical context or are the hundreds of studies and interpretations about, let's say, the tree of life and of knowledge, just a consequence of the bible's incredible popularity? in other words, is the hype justified or could we get the same depth out of harry potter if we studied it for centuries?

It's great literature, just read it you fag. The psalms are beautiful. If you flip through a modern translation with cheeto-stained fingers starting with Genesis 1 you probably won't get much from it, though.

KJV, and keep it precious. Get a nice copy, something with leather.
I like Mormon copies the most, leather or pleather, thin pages, books are indexed, and aren't too expensive. They have a lot of cross references, so it does go a little crazy sometimes, but the quality of the book is tops
