Why is this book so excruciatingly boring? Half the time Spengler goes off on a tangent about mathematics or science.

idk, he's just autistic or something. One of the few books I regret purchasing. He truly is best experienced through an interlocutor and he's about the only significant author I've found that I can really say that about. So much of the book is just pointless drivel while his core ideas about human civilization are fairly interesting.
The only author I've seen with worse tangents than him is Smith, who can go off on a digression for 70 fucking pages.

I'm not asking for a simpler translation. I understand what he is saying and I really wouldn't mind it being hard to read if it was all at least valuable to the subject the book/chapter pertains to. But when I see a logical chain beginning to appear, I find myself drifting off after two more pages because he's gone on another tangent about something wholly unrelated. Maybe read the book instead of shitposting on /lit/.

I think you're right. To name one chapter, 'The Problem of World History', I found to be great reading more or less. But I find myself trudging away at this book because as I say, he has the capability to go off on a tangent no matter what the subject and make the reading boring again.
