How can I write a Pynchonian novel without seeming too derivative of Pynchon? Foster Wallace struggled with this; his first novel A Broom in the System is often criticized as being too Pynchonesque.

Do what Wallace did, claim you never read Pynchon; say you read others that may have influenced Pynchon.

Broom of the System was a Bachelor's thesis so it's funny when people critique it as if it were written to be published and to darken the shelves of your Barnes and Noble.
Also Pynchon is too Helleresque, which itself isn't something to aspire to.
But to not seem to derivative of Pynchon, come up with decent character names
