I've read every book in my life piecemeal. I often finish 2-3 at a time. Takes me months, and feels like I accomplished nothing nor gleaned anything of substance. Also, I'm ashamed of reading in public. Don't know why. I feel like people see me as being pretentious or something. Makes me lose focus on the reading I'm supposed to be doing.

This is going to sound extremely delusional, but in some ways I think I'm too "smart" for reading. My mind takes things in very fast, so it almost feels something slow to read a linear sentence in a single direction. I am capable of taking in a lot of things at once, and seeing the connections between them, so the linearity of reading often bores me.

Can you post some of your work?

I've read hundreds of books but I hardly remember them (except the truly excellent or terrible ones) after a month or so.

I've only recently realised that I skim. I don't know how to reduce myself to a normal pace without feeling like a literal retard.

when reading an anthology of works, such as a Norton collection of plays, I list every individual play as a book on my goodreads, as well as the anthology itself.

That's completely reasonable. Goodreads should be used to catalog what you've read, after all

Not really a confession but something that doesn't deserve it's own thread:

I'll never understand why /lit/ dislikes the Beats bu then reveres Dylan, Waits, etc when lyrics threads pop up. Dylan might as well have been a literal late edition to the Beat scene and Waits owes his lyrical style to them.
