Let's pretend we're Borges, and create books that don't exist.
>>
You're not making any sense. Borges was the only one to create books that already existed.
>>
/r/inging the post about Thr Count of Monte Cristo as written by Borges.

There's an epic poem in an unrecognizable dialect, undoubtedly Latin yet the content seems to precede the onset of the Latin tongue, that posits an idea considered sacrilegious to Abrahamic theologians and thus the translations, although fragmented into labyrinthine aphorisms and allude to events not recorded within the Biblical Canon, never gained popularity and the brief run of English print dissipated unnoticed by historians. While tending a near-fatal wound sustained in a knife fight against a man who looked remarkably similar to my own reflection, it perhaps I reflected him for he was a few years my senior, I laid for days drifting in and out of consciousness in the cabin of a Cuban ship headed for the Cape of Good Hope. As soon as I was able to rise I did so and explored the confines of my little cabin, and upon rifling through the drawers of a desk I happened upon a copy of this forbidden text, perhaps the last. Intrigued, my eyes wandered the pages, skimming past this strange proto-Latin tongue and stopping here and there amongst the passages translatable and became lost amongst verses that alluded to the past as though it was yet to come and as though the entirety of the globe were but one unnamed city. Therein I discovered what the theologians dared not acknowledge, that the Anti-christ and the second coming of Christ were the same event, and the obscure codex went on to state that they would even be the same man, for after the centuries alone humanity had forgotten his face, and upon his return were both saved and destroyed by his unfathomable will.

This one?

I was sitting courtside at the US Open next month sipping Mr. Pibb with David Wallace when suddenly, prompted by a glint of light from Serena Williams' compact mirror, he recounted for me a rumor of a collection of stories that wrote themselves along with their putative author, George Louis Burgess. These stories, or fiktsiyami (as they identified themselves), told of a universe propagated and inverted through a small circular mirror much like the one Ms. Williams was just then clasping shut and placing back in her satchel as she returned to the polymer court, tongueing her lipstick and palming her racket strings' hexagonal weave. The most daring story involved a boundless universe containing every permutable lottery ticket of 1.3 million hexadecimal digits, each ticket a winner yet redeemable for an infinitessimal sum.

Was Cortazar sin the one of trying to write a impossible book like the ones Borges describes in Ficciones?

I mean, common, Hopscotch was rubish afterall, it did not deliver what promised.

It was a book, tough, that influenced me a lot in my early years, when I first heard about it, befoere ever touching it.

It would be better of as just an idea of a book that never existed.

Why?

where to start with borges
>>
>>8428134
B S Johnson took it one step further and wrote a novel where the 25 middle chapters are all interchangeable. it's sold in a box instead of being bound.

to be properly Borgesian about it you'd want to write about a book where you could read the pages (other than first and last) in any order at all. the book would appear ordinary, but no two copies would have the pages in the same order, or even the same length.

Fictions
>>
>>8428143
Well, it is certainly pleasant at times, like all Cortaza's.

But it doesn't get anywhere. Of course it doesn't matter the order that you read it, because there are no more than 3 or 4 plot points, that are only interchangeable because they relate in very loose way.

It felt a bit like cheating to me.

Furthermore, the dialogues can get really pedantic. It is like the author is trying to show everything he knows all the time. We already have Eco for that.

Maybe my job now is to rewrite it in the way I thought it would be. A perfect harmony between a narrative logic net and a Cortazian nostalgic lyricism.

You must be retarded to find Borges good. It was him just showing how cultured he was, and that's it. His stories aren't even that good. They are Netflix-tier, but for faggots who ride the post-modernist meme too hard. I always have found the self-referencing quite boring.
>>
>>8428283
Nope. He was a smart guy and knew a lot, but didn't show off. The erudition in his stories is rarely trivial, unlike a lot of postmodern stuff that gets shilled here. He's not even a difficult writer.
