There is more than enough hints to figure out it's set in the future from the first half. The moment when it really clicked was when they were explaining special relativity to me.

Don Quixote, Tristram Shandy, Borges. all of thos would have blown my mind as a kid. especially borges, Poe was one of my favorite authors but i always knew there was more to explore in imagination. I still get the feeling of wonder from Borges that i used to get from Poe.
