It's about a reporter being sent to cover a war in Africa by mistake (he has the same name as a famous writer). He is completely confused about why he is supposed to write about a bunch of Communists and Nazi niggers fighting each other, but hey, the pay is good. It is a novel based on Waugh's experiences as a war correspondent in Ethiopia before WW2.
