Starting a seminar on transcendentalist/19th century American lit this year. This is (part) of my syllabus: the prof admitted the coursework may change depending on the direction the seminar chooses to focus on.
What do you think?

Yeah, I'm hoping we focus mostly on Poe's theory and criticism, even though some of his stories are top-notch.
I did a quick reread of his stuff back when that The Following show came out, and I wasn't nearly as enthusiastic as I was back when I was 16. Go figure.

Oh wait, I forgot about The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym. Fuck you, Poe's great.

Obviously all of those authors are canon for a reason, but imo it's kind of a shame that your professor doesn't try to investigate less-regarded (but still important) Americans like Margaret Fuller or Cornelius Mathews. It seems like certain people just get edged out of surveys like these for the sake of preserving a coherent historical narrative. idk about your professor's plan though, maybe you will talk about more people than the ones in your pic. Class seems fun though.

Looks like a fucking good class, by the assigned texts. Is your professor a fag named Snediker?
