realistically how much money does he have
how much did he make from gravity's rainbow?
probably inherited more than he made on royalties

This. He was always rich and probably also made a good amount from writing. I think his wife is also a successful liyerary agent who comes from a similar blue blood family line. He's definitely a millionaire

He couldn't have been rich in the first place if he had to write TCoL49 just for the money.

Probably enough to afford a decent condo in NYC.
...A LOT OF FUCKING MONEY
Pynchons my fav writer for sure because my fav thing in books is goofs, gags, jokes and rambunctious behavior, and his books are full to the brim of it. Every novel is like one of those novelty snake cans, you open the book & POP you get a face fulla snakes and you fall back cackling. The mad mind, the crack genius, to do it! and then you think hmmm whats he gonna do next, this trickster, and you pick the book back up and BZZZZZZZZZZ you get a shock and Hahahahahah you've been pranked again by the old pynchmeister, that card. "Did that Pynch?" he says, laughing yukyukyukyuk. Watch him as he shoves a pair of plastic buck teeth right up into his mouth and displays em for you- left, right, center- "you like dese? Do i look handsome???" Pulls out a mirror. "Ah!" Hand to naughty mouth. And you're on your ass again laughing as he snaps his suspenders, exits stage right, and appears again hauling a huge golden gong.
i would not be surprised if he had numerous patrons to supplement him financially. I know several considerably less significant artists who are able to support themselves primarily off of wealthy backers support..

>He was always rich
>How do you know?
it's called research, buddy. not to be flippant, but i fear the internet generation has a lack of understanding when it comes to due diligence and give up on research when the first few links fail to provide adequate information. well, at least the kids who don't make it to college.

He wrote it to fulfil a contract, not for money
>>8393491
Where do you find such people? I could use a patron or two.

you must not be white

hobnob at elite events, society parties, etc. namely, go to where the rich people are. for artists, try the Art Basel events and, more importantly, after parties. for writers, it's a bit tougher.
>>8393504
this is a lie
>>8393502
he called it a "pot-boiler"
>>8393354
It was a big deal in the 70s so he probably made at least a decent chunk of change off it back then. Now I'd imagine his bestsellers are lot 49 because it's on college curriculums, Inherent Vice because it's a lot easier than his early books, and Bleeding Edge for similar reasons.

First time accused of that
