i've never read any cortazar but the concept caught my interest
I considered starting this tonight, but instead I took another crack at A Night of Serious Drinking . Dropped it the first time b/c I got busy.

my favorite book. love it. reread it tons of times
I love his short stories - Nurse Cora is one of my all time faves - but Hopscotch is just a gimmick.

are you supposed to read it following the instructions or simply in sequential order like a normal book?

I tried reading Cortazar several times but its a fucking bore. Have you tried Rayuela? Nothing in it is appealing in the least. Besides his prose is, like every southamerican writer, shit.

DFW mentioned once in an essay that it "worked" better when read without abiding by the instructions.
Its pretty fun, the Paris stuff is comfy, the Argentina stuff is amusing, he's a bit pretentious in places but that never tends to bother me.
Read it in the order it specifies the bonus chapters are some of the best stuff.
And dont listen to the can read in any order because it doesnt work like that. Some of the additional chapters talk about a book they find that does work like that though.
